Located within the centre of Heritage listed Main Street in Birregurra, it was imperative that this new dwelling was sensitive to its adjacent 1920’s neighbours.

The home responds to the needs and aspirations of the lifestyle of a couple seeking daily thermal comfort and increased control over energy costs as they enter into retirement. It is a home that also responds to the possibility of diminishing physical ability.

The dwelling is orientated North-South which opens up with full height double glazed windows along the shaded East and North facades. Natural stone was used on selected walls and large areas of polish concrete floor slabs for internal thermal mass, reducing fluctuations of internal temperature. Light coloured stone offers light reflectively and acoustic absorption.

The materials used to design this residential property create minimal negative impact on the environment, present few maintenance problems and provide recycling of biodegradable option for the future.
