As an essential educational facility within the community, The Wodonga West Children’s Centre incorporates both the Primary School and the Early Learning Children’s Centre.

The particular focus of the  Primary School’s design was to maximise natural day light and passive ventilation as well as integrate protected outdoor spaces.

Encouraging efficient and effective learning, the thermal massing in the concrete floors, sub-floor water storage and masonry internal walls stabilise internal temperatures and additionally provide passive ventilation, enhancing improved staff and student alertness.

Incorporating Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) elements, the timber structure has low embodied energy (compared to steel) sourced from Australian plantation forests. Other features include sky lights, lourve windows and the sub-floor water storage providing 50,000 litres of harvested rain water to the toilets, food garden and school grounds.
